Construction of gas trunklines

The Power of Siberia trunk gas pipeline is designed to deliver gas from the Yakutsk and Irkutsk gas production centers to Russian communities in the Far East and to China via the “eastern” route. Its resource base consists of the Chayandinskoye and Kovyktinskoye fields. The pipeline route passes through the Irkutsk and Amur regions, as well as the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

The total length of the gas pipeline is about 3,000 km: 2,200 km from Chayanda to the Chinese border near Blagoveshchensk, and 804 km is the connecting section between the fields.

During the construction of the Kovyktinskoye–Chayandinskoye section, Gazstroyprom specialists laid 1.5 kilometers of gas pipeline beneath the Lena River. This record was entered into the Russian Book of Records. The task was made more challenging by a 158-meter elevation difference between the riverbanks. As a result, two pipeline strings were pulled through at a depth of 13 meters using a special microtunneling technology.

In 2024, a new compressor station was commissioned on the section between Kovyktinskoye and Chayandinskoye. As a result, the total number of compressor stations on the Power of Siberia pipeline has now reached nine. Additionally, last year a new 3D grading system was tested on the pipeline. This system ensures maximum precision in construction equipment operations through special sensors that determine the position of the excavator bucket in real time.

At present, the volume of gas transmitted through the pipeline has reached the level of contractual obligations — 38 billion cubic meters per year. Moreover, Gazprom has already recorded several instances of exceeding the daily supply level.

In 2024, Gazstroyprom launched a large-scale project — the construction of the Belogorsk – Khabarovsk trunk gas pipeline. This is one of the key stages of the "Eastern Gas Supply System" project, which will connect the “Power of Siberia” pipeline with the “Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok” system.

Belogorsk – Khabarovsk

The gas pipeline will significantly expand the potential for gasification in the eastern regions of Russia. The mainline will pass through three constituent entities of the Russian Federation: the Amur Region, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and the Khabarovsk Territory. The entire route is divided into sections assigned to Gazstroyprom’s contracting organizations.

The project involves crossing more than 65 rivers, which requires Gazstroyprom specialists to apply unconventional engineering solutions. The work is being carried out with the involvement of a large amount of specialized equipment.

At present, construction of the linear section is ongoing, and preparations are underway for the construction of new underwater crossings beneath the Amur, Tunguska, Bureya, and Zeya rivers.

In the first year of construction, GSP specialists laid two underwater crossings in the Amur Region: 632 meters across the Arkhara River and 819 meters across the Tom River. The crossings were completed using trenchless technology, which eliminates mechanical impact on surface soils.
